The June 2019 Edition of the North West Business Insider Magazine features an article about the Northern Powerhouse Health Innovation Conference that Cliff Kirby, CEO of NeedleSmart, was a part of. He took to the stage for a panel debate focused around diagnosis and treatment and also discussed health tech innovation with the possibility of funding from the North.

The Insider Health Innovation Conference took place on the morning of the 25th April at Manchester’s Conference Centre. The event was hosted and organised by Miri Thomas, the Editorial Director of Insider, and saw a number of panel debates and presentations as well as a key note speech from Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Cliff Kirby took to the stage alongside Dr. Steve Powell, Chief Diagnostic Officer of Rutherford Diagnostics, and Dr John McDermott, Academic Clinical Fellow at MCGM (Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine) for a panel debate. A key message that Cliff gave was that in order to adopt tech, a private company shouldn’t be selling to its audience, but instead be encouraging and demonstrating the value-add.

The conference, in association with the Department for International Trade, deliberated the importance of innovative preventative technology and measures for future healthcare. It also explored where the Northern Powerhouse region (particularly the “Core Cities” of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Newcastle) can make productivity gains by investing in prediction and prevention of ill-health and discussed the journey from idea to invoice and if the correct infrastructure is in place to help companies access finance, skills and expertise and distribution for their innovations.
